Dr. Ihsana Salmon, Psy.D.

Dr. Ihsana Salmon is a registered psychological associate with the California Board of Psychology (94026225) and practicing under Dr. Anna Lisa Johannsdottir. Dr. Salmon obtained a doctoral degree from Argosy University, San Francisco Bay Area campus. She graduated with her M.A in Psychology from Long Island University, Brooklyn campus, a 6th year in Community Mental Health counseling from Southern Connecticut State University and a B.S in psychology from College of Staten Island, New York. She completed domestic violence certification and trauma focused training certification.

Dr. Salmon received pre-doctoral and post-doctoral internship training in community-based organizations. She has worked in Department of Children and Family Services- Child Welfare system, California Department of Corrections, Juvenile Hall, particularly for SB823 youth, and in a number of community-based organizations providing mental health services, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and psycho-diagnostic evaluations (depression and anxiety, substance use, personality, intellectual functioning assessments and evidence-based, risk assessments for evaluating sex offenders).

She utilizes compassionate communication to build rapport and she conceptualizes through the lens of the client through one’s faith (Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, etc.), culture (beliefs, customs, race), and life demands (work, school, home, relationship(s), blended families, caring for children and/or parents, and addressing challenging changes within the self over the lifespan). She jointly develops practical interventions and treatment goals specific to each individual. The approach is strength based, client centered Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral/Dialectical Behavioral (chain analysis) and provides psycho-education.
